The exams are still proving very useful in seeing how he's learning and how things are going. I'm actually very impressed with how much we're managing to cover, even though on a daily basis it doesn't seem like we do that much, but I suppose it all adds up over time. We are diligent with school work, not really skipping days, and I keep relatively firmly to our weekly schedule. So we're making good progress and I intend to have the school year wrapped up by the last week of June/first week of July, and then just carry on free reading over the summer to start again in early September.
The exam questions come from a mixture of Ambleside Online's exams, and also my own made up questions for extra/substitute books we've covered.
We read all of the original Jungle Book 1 and Jungle Book 2 this term, and one of B8's questions was to draw a scene he remembers from one of the stories in the book; he chose to draw Riki Tiki Tavi fighting Nag the cobra:
